Child Development Homes

Child Development Homes provide home-based care for children 6 weeks to 12 years old. Providers offer developmentally appropriate programs that promote the overall social, emotional, cognitive and physical growth and development of the children in the homes while building school readiness skills. Military and Department of Defense spouses are trained to provide the same high standards of care in their homes as the Child Development Centers. Homes are monitored and inspected monthly to ensure they meet the Navy's child care standards. CDHs hold Department of Defense certification and participate int he USDA's Child and Adult Care Food Program.

CDH providers offer a variety of care and services. Many CDH providers offer care for multi-age groups. However, providers cater to specific age groups only such as infants. CDH care options may include full- or part-time care for days, nights and weekends; hourly care on a space-available basis; emergency care; respite care;  extended hours; and special needs care.
